What users are saying about Rally Round

Hazel

I suffer from anxiety and depression and also a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. My husband, family and friends are a great help but they are not always available because of work commitments.

The fibromyalgia hits intermittently and on those days I need some extra help with appointments and walking the dog or would just appreciate a cuppa and chat.

Rally Round has been great in helping me to organise some extra help from the BAND volunteers. I feel less isolated and worry less about the things that family can’t help with. It makes me feel less of a burden on family and friends.

Robert

I have been diagnosed with depression and I manage fairly well with the support that I have in place.

I have twice weekly visits from a care agency to do my shopping and they help me budget, but now and again I like to go to a cricket or a football match and that’s where Rally Round comes in.

BAND volunteers who enjoy sports are on my Rally Round network and it means we can enjoy a match together. Even when there isn’t a match, it’s nice to get out with them for coffee and we can have a good chat about results – even if we support different teams!

Gillian

I no longer needed BAND’s mentoring service but from time to time there is something that I feel I need a little help with.

I have a diagnosis of bi-polar and I am coping well at the moment. I was using BAND’s mentoring service but both myself and my worker felt that I no longer needed it.

From time to time I still feel I need a little help with things, like going to the dentist. I’m really scared of the dentist and it’s great that I can ask the Rally Round volunteers just to come with me. Having a Rally Round support group in place makes me feel calmer and now I’m not so anxious when the appointments come through the door.

Scott

I have had a diagnosis of schizophrenia for over 20 years. It’s been a long journey but I am doing well now.

I live a fairly quiet life, working part-time, and I manage most things very well. But my family live quite a distance away and I find long journeys daunting so the Rally Round volunteers will do some journey planning with me. We look at the timetables and where to change buses and we write a plan. I am also able to ring the volunteer for a chat or reassurance during the journey. Thanks to Rally Round I can visit my family more often.
